2015-2017 Ford Mustang Behind Front Grille LED Pod Light Kit Installation Guide

This is a tutorial on how to install the behind-the-grille mounted 40W LED pod lights onto the 2015-2017 Ford Mustang (70-228c). Please note that if you are working with a Mustang Ecoboost model, it has active grille shutters that must be removed in order to mount the high powered CREE LED pod lights. If your Mustang model is either the GT or convertible trim, you may ignore this note; neither has active grille shutters.

If you are installing this pair of LED pod lamps onto the Ecoboost trim, we highly recommend removing the bumper first before taking out the active grille shutters and reinstalling the bumper once you've mounted the LED pod lamps for a more streamlined installation process. You may also remove the bumper if you do not have active grille shutters. Read on to learn how to remove your Mustang's front bumper. The installation pictures are based on the convertible model which does not have active grille shutters.

Step 1: Open the hood of your Mustang and undo the fasteners on the top side shield to remove it.

Step 2: Preassemble the CREE LED pod lights with the included U-brackets.

Step 3: Check to see if your car has active grille shutters. You'll be able to tell by looking through the mesh grille.

Again, if you are working with an Ecoboost model, remove your bumper before taking out the active grille shutters. To learn how to remove your Ford Mustang's front bumper, watch the video tutorial below:

Step 4: Drop the preassembled Ford LED pod lights down towards the gap pointed by the arrow. Mount the LED pod lights onto the hole circled below. If you are working with an Ecoboost model, you may directly mount the Ford LED pod lamps onto the hind side of your grille since you have already removed the grille and active grille shutters.

You will have to widen the hole with a scissor, filer, or a similar item so that the bolts can be routed through.

Step 5: Put your bumper back on if you removed it. Wire the 40W LED pod lights using the included relay wiring harness with switch.

Step 6: Test the LED pods to make sure both function properly. Once you've confirmed that they work, put the top side shield back on to finish up. You may now enjoy your Ford Mustang's brand new behind-the-grille mounted LED pod lights!
